Private thoughts and letter to Alys Vorpatril

Dono needs to get off my arse. If I didn't need him and his money so badly for my cover, I'd tell him to go to hell. Trying to pretend to be oblivious to his increasingly overt hints is tiring and distracting.

I have to stay focused. Something is going on, I can feel it. And it's bad. I can't let domestic squabbles occupy my mind. I have to call Lady Alys.

Comconsole message to Alys's private console:
Lady Vorpatril,

I'm compelled to spend the majority of my afternoons for the foreseeable future babysitting for your nephew's children. It will not interfere with my evening activities.

My apologies.

How do I get into these things?

Well, rumours are swirling about Count Vorkosigan's return from Sergayar. Wondering what this will mean for Lord Vorkosigan and his vote. I could tell them it wouldn't matter. Count Vorkosigan will allow Imperial Auditor Vorkosigan to continue to vote his proxy and even if he didn't, would age have really mellowed the progressive edge of the Count? I very much doubt it.
The Count, my cousin, is delighted. He seems to think that this is a sign of a good things to come. I sense a sort of rallying the troups. Is the Count here to retire, or to become an advisor to the Emperor again? I add my thoughts to the rumours and spread them along again. What a charmed life. I must get myself invited to the homecoming. I wonder if I could prevail upon Lady Alys to wangle me an invitation on the theory that I can keep Lord Ivan out of trouble.
